Day 14: Pacific Coast and Beach!

In the morning we drove to the Coquille River Lighthouse, which was right in Bandon Beach State Park where we were staying. Again it was foggy and gray, but pretty.

Again the rocks were a lot of fun to climb on and it was great to wait for the waves to splash and spray water up high. This time, Ben did not expect the wave to come up so high!! Yikes!

This beach was covered in driftwood. We walked out a long pier where Ben had fun lifting giant pieces of driftwood and throwing them back in the water.

We also saw a pelican and lots of seagulls!

Despite being cold again (low 60s), the boys were determines to swim in the Pacific, so of course they did!

After showers and lunch, we drove on the Harris Beach State Park, our next overnight destination. Along the way, we stopped and walked and climbed at another beach.

We drove by some really breathtaking views of the coast!

Harris Beach was an awesome campground! If we had had the right site, we could have had an amazing ocean view straight from the camper!
As it was, we were in a back loop, very pretty with lots of trees, but very difficult to back into! A person in the site opposite ours had to move his truck to make it possible to get the camper in position.
After that, it was getting kind of late. We really wanted to see the beach, so we walked down in that direction. There was a steep rocky trail down and the rocky beach was phenomenal!

There was a steep rock that had kind of a tunnel under it, which filled a small lagoon with every wave!
As I hurried to get the perfect photo of the beauty of this scene, I was walking too quickly and did not realize that the rocks were slippery with algae, so I slipped and went down pretty hard on the rocks.
My biggest concern was that I smashed my camera, since the front lens hit a rock on my way down. Most of the impact was on my left hand and left hip and the camera was in my right hand, so in the end it ws not damaged!
I was so releived. Meanwhile, Daryl came to see if I was okay and slipped and fell himself, splashing muddy water on me ... we were quite the embarrassing group. Then to add to it, we kept talking about the beautiful moon, which in fact turned out to be the sun!

Alex and I climbed up on this awesome rock, which was really high. Yes, that is us in the photo, if you look really closely!

Ben brought his soccer ball and we found a cool rock that was perfect for a goal, bouncing the ball right back to you.

We walked and climbed all over the big boulders... it was awesome!
