Day 2: To Oacoma, South Dakota

We got going in decent time this morning, knowing we had a long stretch of driving planned (over 6 hours). Of course as it was, 6 hours turned into way more with all the stops for fuel, etc. Again, Harry Potter helped us pass the time and we made it to Mitchell by a little after 5 pm. Daryl wanted us all to see the Corn Palace. What a tourist trap!

Truly very corny!

The best part was on our way out we were all in the van together because we were going to eat supper before we got back on the road, and were talking about the experience. Well, somehow we started listing what to do with corn, and it went from corn soup, creamed corn, corn chowder, cornbread, etc (all with a silly Southern accent, mind you, like the scene in Forrest Gump with the shrimp) to pop corn, cornucopia, and candy corn, and  then unicorn, and finally "Corn"elius Fudge from Harry Potter. We were cracking up laughing!
After supper st Perkins we decided to drive on another hour to Al's Oasis, a rest stop with a free lot for big rigs. It was our first night "boon-docking" with the generator (Elaine uses oxygen and both my in laws have sleep apnea machines at night). It does run pretty noisy, but it was doable with earplugs!

This time, we actually had a view of the Missouri River from the parking lot. There was a nice scenic overlook from the other side just before we got there.
